Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
I’m not going to write or share anything about Gaza, except my personal belief that being a pacifist in the United States feels like being a vegan who owns a cattle ranch. I live a very comfortable life inside an imperialist murder machine that has been at war since I began to pay taxes, and disavowing any other imperialist murder machines, or the violent terrorism created in their wake, in my dumb little newsletter, feels pretty hollow and egotistical. I recognize the wide range of emotions different people are feeling, as well as the manipulative and pervasive information that brings us to these conclusions. So! On to other links:
Bankers heard about all of us enjoying indie movies and had this thought, so now A24 has a stupid high valuation and will start churning out garbage to keep their new daddies happy.
Interesting new scam artist alert, specifically for my “Air Disasters” heads - this former DJ has been selling faulty parts to airline companies using fake names, stock photos and good old-fashioned confidence.
Louise Glück passed away over the weekend. She is one of my favorite poets, and probably who I try to imitate the most in my own writing. These five poems are good introduction to her quiet, mournful world.
If you have trash television taste like me, you know half the fun of the extended Bravo-verse are the memes and think-pieces to go along with it. Hunter Harris has a pop culture newlsetter that did a hilarious deep dive on a recent New York Housewives scandal, where one husband is revealed to be a “points guy.” It’s worth subscribing to her Substack for the morning-after RHONY chats alone.
Someone at MSNBC set their time machine to 2001 and said, “this is not the political climate for us to see brown people on television,” and I feel like I’m losing my goddman mind all over again.
Tunes to start the week with:
New Sufjan is devastating and gorgeous, Troye Sivan’s latest album is extremely fun dance pop, and even though the Odd Future crew doesn’t always ~speak~ to me, I can’t stop listening to this single off the Earl Sweatshirt/The Alchemist album.
