Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
Hey…hey…how y’all doing?
Trump is really shaking things up as the first openly pro-cancer president.
I’ve been a little more interested in YouTube recently, mainly because I don’t know who their CEO is and I’d like to prove to myself that my attention span isn’t completely cooked. One of my suggested follows was a (video?) podcast, Fashion Neurosis with Bella Freud (yes, that Freud). This one with Zadie Smith is fabulous; two brilliant women talking clothes and culture. I haven’t listened to the Nick Cave episode yet, but I’m certain that’s also a banger.
Speaking of clothes, Oscar de la Renta (the brand, not the dead man) pushed all their chips behind fascism by outfitting Florida Tax Fraud Barbie (Ivanka) and the SLOTUS most likely to have her marriage made illegal by her own husband (Usha) for the inauguration. Is the brand irrelavent since the death of ODLR? Yeah, for the most part. But it’s still puzzling to see a fashion house alienate the vast majority of their customers, in hopes that people who famously can’t afford eggs will sell their jetskis for some size 0 duchess satin. Best of luck!
Don’t let RFK Jr. know about this guy, or he’s going to appoint him Surgeon General.
Tunes to start the week with:
Sharing some older music to help you not totally hate America. We really do make good stuff! These albums have all been in rotation for me lately:
Stevie Wonder, Songs In The Key Of Life (duh)
The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds. I’m sharing the mono version because “Hang On To Your Ego” is better than “I Know There’s An Answer.” The entire time I listen I’m thinking, “men used to harmonize and now they just lose all their money sports betting.”
This Staples Singers compilation because it has a really good cover of “The Weight” on it and skews slightly less gospel than the rest of their catalog (no shade to Jesus, just not my vibe, rn).
Jackson Browne, For Everyman. Jackson Browne is an unproblematic old white guy, let’s give him his flowers.
MC5, Kick Out The Jams (at minimum, listen to the opening of “Motor City is Burning” - goddman!!)
Keep your chin up!
xx
