Hi!
Thanks for opening this newsletter.

me giving you my hot takes on the Grammys (see below)
Early today, cause I got shit to do!
As someone who is pretty cavalier with food expiration dates, mainly because of a home-cooked conspiracy theory that it's a capitalist scheme, J. Kenji López has written a useful set of guidelines of when to actually toss out that sesame oil. Here's to poisoning ourselves less (or reducing waste, depending on which end of the spectrum you are) in 2023. (NYTimes link)
This newsletter turning into a WBZ News Radio appreciation account is not something I was prepared for, but Matt Shearer's interviews with the Bay State's finest, like this spicy florist, are simply too good.
Tired: NYMag's etiquette guide. Wired: learning how to have a juicy, enlightening conversation.
One thing you can count on, like death and taxes, are conservatives fundamentally misunderstanding science and fucking everyone in the process. Case in point, the horrifying fallout of the Roe V. Wade reversal and its impact on virtually every aspect of women’s healthcare.

Tunes to start the week with:
The Grammys were last night, which begs the age old question, "who is this for?" When a former US President and drone bomb enthusiast has cooler and more relevant taste than you, you know it's bad. So, instead of listening to "the best album of the year" (I mean, it's pretty good? "Best" is a reach!) Harry's House, try out the groovy little 1973 folk album by Haruomi Hosono, Hosono's House, that it was inspired by. I love chill, funky music, with lyrics in a language I don't understand, for writing, or other creative pursuits. It gives a "Lofi Beats for Studying" vibe, but more personal. Another new-to-me contender in this arena is Parranoul (or 파란노을), a South Korean shoegaze artist with a new album, After the Magic. And if this is your sort of thing, Kompakt's Pop Ambient compilation series are a great place to look for fresh tunes, as opposed to, say, the Grammy's Best New Artist nominees...
