Hi!
Thanks for opening this email.
A classic Monday newsletter to start the week off ok:
I’ve seen this New Yorker piece by Agnes Callard, an argument against travel, a bunch of places and wanted to share here. While some of her points stood out to me, like the hollowness of activities sought out in new places and the innate privilege of tourism, as someone with friends and a general zest for life, I found it unrelateable. Thought-provoking nonetheless!
A nice lesson about the first US factory strike, which was led by teenaged girls, and feels relevent almost 200 years later when our government is rolling back protections against child labor.
Weird earth science news! A “gravity hole” possibly caused by the “African blob.”
A clever product review that ruminates on one’s role in their community and the American predisposition to vigilantism.
An insane woman with a ukelele and a very young fanbase is under scrutiny for inappropriate relations with said fans, Blackface and a “Gangam Style” parody that would make Mickey Rooney uncomfortable. YouTube seems like a scary place!
Threads is bad, but so is everything, and all I know is I hate my embarassing billionaire dads :(
Tunes to start the week with:
I’m very excited for the upcoming Barbie movie, so naturally I’m digging the hyper-pop and disco soundtrack. I miss the days when soundtracks were carefully compiled, like a moodboard, and chock-full of popular artists. The album isn’t officially out yet, but the singles are so fun and there’s more surprises to come, so I will be staying tuned to see who else Mark Ronson got to sing about a doll.
