Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
My heart is broken for Los Angeles. Nothing snarky to say this week (except Rick Caruso can go fuck himself forever and ever, amen). Here are some GoFundMes that havenโt been filled yet and, if youโre local, an Altadena donation drop-off for the teen girls in the area, started by a 13 year-old whoโs school burned down. I love you, LA!!!
Iโve seen a lot of people talking about the โWirkin,โ but for a different take on luxury v. accessibility, check out Telfar Clemens. In celebration of his Soho store opening, he peddled real bags from his eponymous line alongside the counterfeit sellers of Canal Street, stating, โweโre sharing the same turf.โ
Pretending Iโm here until April.
Two men who are shorter than me got together to talk about political theory, censorship, and how the tech industry is kinda gay now. One action to remedy the femininity plaguing tech and entice the American right wing? Add someone to your Board of Directors who famously beats the shit out his wife.
Now this is masculine technology (very, very funny and unfortunately untrue).
Private equity firms have been gobbling up celebrity-owned production companies for a minute, but now it appears that a business made up of one famous actor and two or three creative execs isnโt the money-printing juggernaut Blackrock had imagined! Naturally, the beleaguered bankers are pointing to writers strikes as the reason that Carpool Karaoke didnโt generate billions of dollars in revenue, as opposed to, James Corden.
Tunes to start the week with:
The new Bad Bunny album is so much fun and makes me wanna DANCE - great to blast on a 20 degree day to gaslight yourself into feeling joy. Itโs also great for crying! DO NOT look up the lyrics to โDtMFโ if you are a non-Spanish speaker who has ever felt loss. If youโre grieving and fluent, lo siento.
Totally different end of the vibe spectrum, but I didnโt listen to the first Ethel Cain album and now I know I missed out. Her second album, Perverts, (incredible title) is spooky and slow and sparse, very Grouper or Marissa Nadler-esque. Really beautiful and special stuff!
