Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
After sifting through most of the internet, I’ve come away with these treasures:
The childfree vs. parent culture war rages on, online. NYMag kicked things off with a spicy take from someone who might not like her friends, people got riled up and Ann Friedman had a lovely, measured response. My opinion? Our society has very little value for caregivers, it’s weird to marginalize or ostracize anyone (children, parents, childfree), and moms deserve patience and compassion even it temporarily kills your vibe.
Speaking of babies, look at this little star 🥺
Dietitians and nutrionists on TikTok have been lying about Diet Coke being good for you, and I can’t imagine what is driving people to make the choice between getting medical advice from strangers on social media or a $2 mil bill from UHG.
My new favorite conspiracy theory is that cities are making themselves more convenient and livable because they want to TRAP YOU FOREVER, and if that is the case, lock me up and throw away the key, cause I am about Sweetgreen and public transit 4LIFE BABY!
If you find Republicans hypocritical in their incessant moral panic, then you probably haven’t seen this video of Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert engulfed in a Snoop Dogg-style smoke cloud, whilst giving her date a dry handy at a performance of the Beetlejuice musical, like a real God-fearing Patriot.
Tunes to start the week with:
New Vagabon AND Mitski, which is exciting, but I wanna talk about their spiritual predecessor, Cat Power. I wrote a tribute for Moon Pix (unfortch not published yet), but goddman, that is a good album. Allegedly written after being visited by a demon in a nightmare (hell. yes.), Cat Power is poignant and vulnerable in a special way that only comes from growing up without a cell phone and severe bouts of alcoholism. I haven’t been able to get this song out of my head for the past week.
