Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.

This has been a very long six weeks!
No need to worry, though, the Dems are doing prop comedy
OG natural wine babe and reviewer, Marissa Ross, is back with a fantastic Substack. She was my gateway drug to this brand of snobbery/enthusiasm. The way she talks about wine is pure poetry.
Really interesting piece on the co-existance of anti-Muslim sentiment in the fashion community and the embrace of “modest headwear.”
If you enjoy sports or music, these two titans of industry are teaming up to make them both much worse.
One of the more evil pratices of the late 20th century, gay-conversion “therapy,” a vile concept that has rightfully been outlawed, is back on the Supreme Court docket as Conservatives advance their comprehensive child torture agenda.
‼️🚨🆕 section where I complain about a societal trend I think sucks 🆕🚨‼️
Speaking of the core American values of individualism and hating children, this viral piece, “My Friends Abandoned Me When They Had Kids,” is just so stupid to me. I think I am well-qualified to speak on this as a person with no kids, who is unburdened by a FOMO complex, and has the ability to think of people beyond myself (sometimes). The writer has to know - what she is describing is a skill issue. I’m sure if I were only friends with 1. women 2. my age 3. with identical values, I would maybe feel more adrift in the sea of babies. But in reality, I’ve built a friend group of different generations and genders and goals! It’s called creating community, baby! The entire premise of being disenfranchised by mothers or children is false anyway. Like, name two groups capitalism hates more than them! And of course, I’ve had friendships fade out when kids entered the picture. But people build the lives they want - if Socialist stoner auntie isn’t a position you’re looking to fill, I can take my services elsewhere, no hard feelings. Of course, that makes a less compelling story for the attention economy. The motivations behind publishing something so polarizing are obvious and cynical. If only the writer had seen this comment that has since become one of my personal mantras.
Tunes to start the week with:
Gaga, obviously. Otherwise, I’ve got my head in the sand, new release-wise. I’m listening to this ancient Ben Kweller album (“Wasted and Ready” is an all-timer), a Robyn masterpiece, a forgotten Kevin Drew (of Broken Social Scene fame) record, and Tinashe’s oft-neglected first album, Aquarius.
