Hi!
Thanks for opening this email.
Sending a Substack to a handful of friends who may or may not read it is my act of resistance.
A stunning look into the composition of the strings section on “The Thong Song.”
After listening to this episode of This American Life, I genuinely cannot reconcile the idea that the US government is actively encouraging women to have more children, while financing the executions of two-year old Gazans half-way around the world and tearing apart families all across our own country. But apparently, that chaos is the name of the game!
Supplemental material for my declaration last week that it is “Depressed Brunette Summer” - a guide to Elaine May’s “brunette losers” (complete with a reading of Elaine Benes that will stick with me forever).
I live for nosy-ass stuff like this survey on debt.
Love this essay on the lady spaceship kind of being the death knell for identity politics. I’d write about this topic too, but I know I’ll never do better than this quote.
Tunes to start the week with:
There’s a new album from SAULT, a mysterious UK-supergroup of neo-soul, R&B and house legends. I love this stuff - very chill, the kind of album you play on a loop for consistent cool girl vibes.
Speaking of cool girl, Tennis also has a new album out. If you are new to this group, think Blood Orange wearing a pink polo at the yacht club. Good spring jams.
Anybody want a new poem?
“Brainrot”
Two pigeons on a red roof wings origami folded over each over “This could be us If you weren’t playing” My mind is not my own Or maybe? I've built a careful framework to recognize all the Earth's love
