Hi!
Thanks for opening this email.
Returning to your inbox with some internet souvenirs.
If you learn one thing about Vivek Ramaswamy, presidential hopeful and the reason you should let kids bully nerds, please let it be about his Libertarian rap career as an undergrad at Harvard, inspired by major red flag of a favorite rapper, Eminem. It’s important to note that his fellow students *loved* this act, a reminder of shameful elder millenial tastes and Ivy League corniness, and even more reason to disavow him now.
The Jason Aldean song about feeling afraid/murdering strangers is taking on a new meaning now that Black TikTok is adding it to Montogomery Boat Brawl videos. If you don’t know what anything I’ve said means, I encourage you to head down one of the funnier, more satisfying rabbit holes of the week.
Typically a Vogue article about smoothies would trigger my fight or flight, but Emma Specter is not your average Vogue writer, and this piece on the Hailey Beiber Erewhon smoothie is delightful.
I am obsessed with this terrible runner from Somolia, especially her little “yeah, I did that,” skip at the end of the race.
For those curious what Republicans are replacing literacy and critical thinking with, check out this story on PragerU Kids, cartoons that help young minds understand that slavery isn’t so bad, cops are your friends, and that denying climate change is akin to fighting Nazis in the Warsaw Uprising. I wish I was making a very cynical joke, but I’m not!
Tunes to start the week with:
Inspired by my travels last week, I made a little “Midwest Summer” playlist (beta tested on two real Midwesterners). Think Hüsker Dü, Wilco and Ohio’s very own rock queens, The Breeders - total white plastic patio chair, Miller Lite, dad rock vibes. I also threw in new Slowdive because you know I’m not about that American hegemony - more of a vibes girly. Enjoy!
