take a look, it's in a book
Hi!
Thanks for opening this email.

something for the true heads, this moment is for all of us
Sharing some short fiction today, because The New Yorker says English majors are dead and I wanna say I am out here living, bitch!!!
Leading off with a tense, tight, banger of a excerpt, "Nothing Special," by Nicole Flattery. I love how she sprints through the complicated dynamics between women!
A short story about the fallout of a hate crime amongst a group of friends, "Hammer Attack," by Han Ong. I found this really striking - a way to make something ripped from headlines personal and humane.
"Triptych," a Hernan Diaz mystery set in the declining clubs of New York society. He takes a pretentious world and makes it so intimate and gossipy - my favorite genre.
And if you really, truly hate fiction, I recommend therapy (jk...but maybe not jk) and Ross Gay's The Book of Delights, amazing little essays living at the intersection of poetry and journaling.

Tunes to start the week with:
The girls keep putting out albums! The new Kali Uchis, Red Moon in Venus, is a super sexy soul album. The single, "I Wish You Roses," is dreamy and cool (we'll say "SZA, but at peace"). And if you haven't checked out her 2018 debut, Isolation, today is a good day to fix that.
