Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
What a week/month/year/lifetime! Some links to keep us abreast of it all:
Silicon Valley speculators Andreessen Horowitz are PISSED that people don’t seem enthusiastic about tech having a free-for-all with “training data,” or, as it is more commonly know, copyrighted content.
In other “AI” news, one of the largest model marketplace-style platforms has introduced a “bounty” for deepfakes of real people. Meaning, one of the things we were scared of is not just happening, but encouraged. It’s interesting, because for all of the fear around AI, the actual problems are still always the people using it.
“Tunnel girl” is the latest TikTok main character - an explainer here.
Legacy media is carrying a lot of water for the evil rich this week and people are not feeling it! From the Vogue profile of a wax Joe Rogan rejected by Madame Tussauds and his sentient boob job gf (Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez) to the breathless fashion coverage of Donald Trump’s daughter/wife Ivanka throughout her “comeback tour,” we are seeing some serious class consciousness rising in real time.
I loved this essay by Rax King on “Priscilla” and the omnipresent theme of women’s interiority in Sofia Coppola’s oeuvre.
Tunes to start the week with:
The new Dua Lipa single is produced by Tame Impala and sounds exactly how you think it would (nice!). Anthropologie shoppers and coffeeshop studiers of the early aughts will remember Beirut - he’s back with another album that’s lush and joyful, a pleasant tone shift for the current climate. Hotline TNT’s new LP, Cartwheel, is noisy, shoegazey, power pop, and quickly becoming one of my most listened to albums.
