Hi!
Thanks for opening this email / reading this post.
I’m back like the measles, baby!
“Aura farming” is a Gen Z slang term that I have recently been introduced to via these Indonesian boat racing kids. I still don’t totally understand what it means - maybe just like, doing something to look cool? Is it a fixed, or maybe fleeting, state of self-consciousness that prevents one from living an authentic life? Is it a dance? Solipsism? Who can say? FWIW, I do think the kids on the boat look cool.
Turns out, Jeffrey Epstein didn’t have any friends, especially not current or former American presidents or British royals, and that’s why he killed himself. You really never know what someone else is going through!
“Yeah, Cuomo is a pervert freak loser, but have you ever considered that when Zohran was 18 years old, he may have appropriated the Black American experience on a Columbia application? And what if I told you that information was given to me by a professional racist?” - the NYTimes
Tunes to start the week:
Everyone loves Turnstile, I love Turnstile. I had been kind of avoiding them, but on the insistence of a friend, who also likes to rock, I listened to their new album, NEVER ENOUGH. It was difficult for me to fathom an interesting punk group, based in the US, with no women in the lineup, in the year of Benson Boone; but somehow these dudes transcend the culture. There’s a lot of good stuff - heavy guitars, soaring vocals, and drum fills, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Blink-182. Reminds me of golden age emo and pop punk. We all yearn for the pit!
